CustomEFIS Fuel Injection

This system was built by custom efis. When I originally ordered it I was told 7 weeks for gm tbi unit. After 9 months of delays I was told they had a multiport system that was all ready to go. The price was right so I grabbed it. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE THAT TURNED OUT TO BE. The owner John never bothered to disclose the fact that he had never built nor tuned such a system before. I essentially became his guinea pig so he could test the system. When I first got the system it ran horribly. He didn't even know what program to use to log data nor did he know how to calibrate the chip. After several months of trial and error he finally figured out how to get it all to work. All of this extra work resulted in major amounts of my time being wasted. In the end the jeep accelerated well but the idle was always unsteady and there was lots of backfiring when taking my foot off the gas. He eventually got rid of the backfiring for the most part but the idle was still crappy even a year after the installation. He had me buy new IAC valves, replace the injectors, ecm, run extra grounds etc. all to no avail. Then he said he would travel to my home and fix the problem. Of course this hasn't happened as of yet. Then all of a sudden the emails stopped coming for over a month I didn't hear from him. After filing with the better business bureau and threatening to sue he finally began to return my emails again and is still claiming that he will come fix the problem. We'll see. I am currently looking into litigation as I write this. Why am I writing all of this? Simple- I'm hoping to save others from suffering the same fate. If you own one of his systems and are having problems as well please email me as I would like to document other similar cases. This site will be updated if and when things change. Stay tuned.
Update 10/4/07
After 2 years of waiting for customefis to make this system right he finally eliminated one of the most annoying drivability problems. This came after I repeatedly threatened to take him to court. He had replaced the original computer with one that helped it idle smoothly. Unfortunately this computer wasn't compatible with the speed sensor he sold me and had other issues that affected drivability. The main problem was that when I took my foot off the gas the idle wouldn't drop down. I had mentioned this several times over a 6 month period (apparently he wasn't listening) but finally he made an adjustment and fixed it. After speaking with some other efi experts I found out that the computer he supplies with the kit was never used with a manual transmission. The result is an idle that stays high when you push in the clutch or drops down and then surges up and down before finally settling back to 800 rpm's. His kit may work better with an automatic but I can't attest to that. Basically all of the problems I have experienced with this kit were due to poor engineering and poor customer service on his part. At this point I will have to live with it for now but at some point I will probably switch to the mopar kit which I should have purchased from the beginning. He is now selling his kit for almost the same price as the mopar kit- unbelievable!
All in all this has been a horrible experience. Between the long wait for the kit to arrive to waiting forever for him to return emails and the obvious imperfections in his design I'm out a lot of time and money but I guess I learned my lesson. Go with a proven design from a reputable company.
Final update: I now have the system running well (no thanks to custom efis) I was able to find a company online that was able to read my aldl data and tune the chip properly.
